Thank you for upgrading to DoseCast Pro! In this document you will be given a walkthrough on the full list of options when adding a medication to DoseCast, as well as options to select when taking your medication, using the History section, changing the Display and Reminder options, adding other people through Caregiver & Family Share.

Adding a Medication

1. Start by clicking + New Pill in the upper right corner of the main screen. A new medication screen will appear.

Please note that in order for all changes to be saved, you MUST click the check mark in the upper right corner of
every screen to save your selection.

2. Click on the Drug Name field and start typing the name of the medication. The field will autopopulate after three characters and it may suggest names similar to what you are typing. When you have located your medication, click the check mark in the upper right.

If you do not see the name of your medication, click Search Drug Database and start typing the name of the medication, and can additionally filter by Prescription or Over-the-Counter (OTC). When you have located your medication, click the check mark in the upper right.

3. Check that the Drug Type is correct. If it is not, you may have selected a different medication than you intended.

If the Drug Type is not correct, select the field and scroll down until you find the correct one. If it is not listed, scroll down until the Custom Drug Type field and fill out the custom text field. When the type of medication is correct, click the check mark in the upper right.

4. Next up is setting up your medication schedule. Click on the third box and select one of the following options: On a schedule (such as 10PM every day), At intervals (such as every 6 hours), or As needed.

a. If using On a schedule, select the Frequency of Once or more per day, Weekly, Monthly, or Every X days or weeks… Select the Starting date if it is other than the current date and an Ending date if there is one. Create the dose schedule by scrolling down to Times of Day and clicking Add new time… To set the time of day, swipe up and down on the numbers. You may add as many times as needed under the Once or more per day option. Always click the check mark to exit each field.

b. If using At Intervals, click Interval and set it with the correct number of weeks, days, hours, and minutes. The total amount of time between doses will display at the top of the screen. If there is a limited number of doses allowed, click on Limit and set it to Per Day or Per 24 Hours and then enter the Maximum Doses. Select the Starting date if it is other than the current date and an Ending date if there is one. Always click the check mark to exit each field.

c. If using As Needed, select the Starting date if it is other than the current date and an Ending date if there is one. If there is a limited number of doses allowed, click on Limit and set it to Per Day or Per 24 Hours and then set the Maximum Doses. Always click the check mark to exit each field.

5. To change the person taking the medication, click Taken By and select the correct name. If the person has not been added to the system, click New person… and add the name of the new person. Click the check mark to exit.

6. All fields after this point are optional. To see the additional fields, continue scrolling down the new medication screen.

7. To add an image of the medication, click Choose Image and select the source of the image, such as Camera or Photos. When you have selected the image, a new screen will pop up with a highlighted box to show the area of the image that will be displayed. Move the box by dragging until it is in the correct position and click Save.

8. Any Directions given along with your medication (such as “take with meals”) may be entered by clicking on that field and typing in the box. Click the check mark to exit.

9. The next section, the dosage information, is dependent on the Drug Type you selected above. For instance, a Pill will give the options Pills per Dose and Pill Strength and a Spray will give the options Sprays per Dose, Spray Strength, and Spray Location.

a. Click on the top field to enter the number of units of the medication you take. In the example below, the unit is Pill and the top field of the dosage information is Pills per Dose. Some Drug Types will allow you to put in a decimal as part of the number to allow for cases of splitting units, such as cutting a pill in half.

Troubleshooting tip: If the dosage fields do not seem correct for your medication, check that the Drug Type is correct. For example, if you accidentally selected Drop instead of Liquid, the program will display Drops per Dose instead of the more appropriate Dose Volume.

b. Set the Dose Strength of your medication. If the Dose Strength is not displaying the correct units, click Change units… and select the appropriate one. Click the check mark to exit.

Troubleshooting tip: If the Dose Units do not seem correct for your medication, check that the Drug Type is correct. For example, if you accidentally selected Drop instead of Liquid, the Dose Strength options be percent (%) and International Units (IU) instead of instead of the more appropriate g/mL, mg/tsp, or similar.

c. Continue filling out the dosage information section as appropriate, clicking on each field to edit it.

Right: Clicking on Spray Location will show the possible treatment locations. Scroll down to see the full list. Please note that you cannot select more than one location at a time.

10. The next section is the refill information. Similar to the dosage information, the names of the field will change depending on the Drug Type. The Doses Remaining, Doses per Refill, and Refills Remaining are all set with a simple counter system. You can also set a Refill Alert by clicking on the field and selecting the number of days or weeks in advance of running out you would like to receive a refill alert. Always click the check mark to exit each field.

11. If there is any expiration information for your medication, you can set an Expiration Date and an Expiration Alert. Set the Expiration Date by swiping up and down on the months, days, and year. Set the Expiration Alert by clicking on the field and selecting the number of days or weeks in advance of running out you would like to receive an expiration alert. Click the check mark to exit.

12. If you would like to add contact information already stored on your phone to the Doctor or Pharmacy fields, click on the field and grant permission and allow DoseCast to access your contacts. You can then select the contact you wish to link to the field. The prescription number does not require any additional permissions; simply click on the Prescription # and type in the field. Click the check mark to exit.

13. If you have any additional information to add, there is a general Notes field. Click the field to enter text, then click the check mark to exit.

14. If you wish to be notified of when to take the medication, make sure Reminders is toggled on. If you want to be nagged after the initial alert, toggle on Secondary Reminders. To set the alert sound, frequency, and other settings, click on the Settings button of the main screen and scroll down until Reminders.

15. If you wish to record all instances of missed medication, toggle on Log Missed Doses.

16. Click the check mark in the upper right corner of the new medication screen and you’re done! After this, you may wish to continue adding medications or go into the Settings screen to see additional options.

Taking Your Medication

1. When the alert goes off, there are multiple options to choose from. If there is one medication at a time, the options are Take Dose, Skip Dose, and Postpone Dose. If there is more than one medication at the same time, the options are Take Doses, Skip Doses, and Postpone Doses.

If you wish to see the information you set for each medication, you may click on its name and the information will load.

2. If you select Take Dose and there is only one medication, you must select Take dose now, I took this dose at…, or Take Dose + Log

a. Take dose now marks the medication in your log.

b. I took this dose at… allows you to mark the medication as being taken at another time, such as if you took it 15 minutes early.

c. Take Dose + Log… lets you add notes to your history log, such as symptoms and general feelings. Under Select Type you may mark your notes as Allergy, Emergency, Mood, General, or Side Effects. You may also select a face to show how you are feeling. All of these fields are optional, so you may fill out as many or as few as you wish.

3. If you select Take Doses and there is more than one medication to take, you must select Take all doses now, I took these doses at…, Select doses to take, or Take Dose + Log.

a. Take all doses now, I took these doses at…, and Take Dose + Log are the equivalent of the sections above, but for multiple doses.

b. Select doses to take… brings you to another screen where you may select a specific medication. After that, you will get the Take dose now, I took this dose at…, and Take Dose + Log… options.

4. If you wish to postpone your medication to a later time, select Postpone Dose and another screen will pop up giving you options for how long to postpone it. A new Dose Reminder will go off after the specified time has passed.

5. If you wish to skip your medication, select Skip Dose.

6. If you marked a medication as the wrong status, such as Taken when you were out, or Skipped when you thought you were missing your bottle but found it shortly after, click the Undo button for the corresponding medication. A window will pop up asking you to confirm you wish to undo your last action taken.

7. If you have taken your medication and you have multiple devices on your account, you will need to turn off the Dose Reminder alert on the second device. You can do this by going to the second device, loading DoseCast, and clicking the small refresh icon in the upper right corner of the Dose Reminder window. Do not mark the dose as taken on the second device or it will add a second entry to the history log.

8. Please note that taking the medication through the pop-up notification at the top of your device will not give you the same options as if you were inside DoseCast. If you click Take All through this pop-up instead of within DoseCast and would later like to change the information related to this dose, please see the History Options section below.

Using the History

1. The History section of DoseCast allows you to see all the medication events, including whether doses were taken, skipped, or postponed, as well as any log information added to the medication events. You can also add, delete, or edit medication events, as well as share your medication history log, from within the History screen

To bring up the history log, click on the icon at the bottom of the main screen.

If you are the only person on your account, you will go straight to the History screen. If there are multiple people on your account, you will be asked to select the person whose history log you wish to display.

3. When you enter the History screen, you will see all the medication events for the selected person, as well as the status of each medication event. To add, delete, or edit a medication event, click the pencil icon in the upper right corner.

4. To add an event, click Add new event… at the top of the screen. You will be asked for the Drug Name, Action, and Event Time.

5. To delete an event, select the trash can icon next to the event you wish to delete. You will be asked to confirm the deletion.

6. To edit an event, select the pencil icon next to the event you wish to edit. You can change the Drug Name, Action, Event Time, or Scheduled Time.

7. To send your medication history log to someone else, click on the mail icon at the bottom of the History screen. You will need to confirm that you wish to send your medical history. Afterwards, select the program you wish to use to send your medical history and send the message as usual. Your medical history will be attached as an HTML file.

Display Options

1. Display options can be seen by clicking on Settings icon at the bottom of the screen in DoseCast.

2. There are three sections: Sort drugs by, Show suspended drugs, and Show drug images.

3. The Sort drugs by option allows you to change how the medications are displayed on the Reminders screen

a. By drug name arranges the medications alphabetically.
b. By time of next dose arranges the medications in the order in which they will be taken.
c. By person arranges the medication in sections by name.
d. By drug type arranges the medication by the Drug Type they were initially entered as (such as capsule, inhaler, etc).

4. Show suspended drugs can be toggled on or off and will either display or hide the medications marked as Suspended on the Reminders screen.

5. Show drug images can be toggled on or off and will either display or hide the pictures attached to the medications on the Reminders screen.

Reminders Options

1. Reminders options can be seen by clicking on Settings icon at the bottom of the screen in DoseCast and scrolling
down.

2. To change the way that DoseCast reminds you to take your medication, click on the Reminder Sound or Reminder Vibration fields.

3. The Importance field is used to set whether DoseCast will make an audio alert and visual pop up. There are four options:

a. Urgent has DoseCast make an audio alert and make a pop-up window. You can also toggle the vibration alert, set how alerts are displayed on your phone’s lock screen, toggle the notification dot at the top of your screen, and make DoseCast override the Do Not Disturb feature of your phone. You can also select the sound your device will make as an audio alert.
b. High has DoseCast only make an audio alert. You can also toggle the vibration alert, set how alerts are displayed on your phone’s lock screen, toggle the notification dot at the top of your screen, and make DoseCast override the Do Not Disturb feature of your phone. You can also select the sound your device will make as an audio alert.
c. Medium has DoseCast only make a pop-up window. You can also set how alerts are displayed on your phone’s lock screen and toggle the notification dot at the top of your screen.
d. Low does not have DoseCast make an audio alert or a pop-up window. The only option is toggling the notification dot at the top of your screen.

4. The Secondary (“nag”) reminder will cause an additional alarm to go off if you do not acknowledge the first medication reminder. The interval between reminders defaults to 5 minutes but can be customized. Secondary reminders are set per medication, so you can have some medications with secondary reminders and some without.

5. Continuous alarms until acknowledged is a setting that can be toggled on or off. If the setting is turned on, the phone will continue to make an audio alert until the medication reminder is acknowledged.

Caregiver & Family Share

1. DoseCast offers the option to use multiple devices in a single Pro account. This service is referred to as Caregiver & Family Share and is located under the Services section at the bottom of the main screen.

2. If you wish to add DoseCast to another device and link it to your Pro account, start by selecting Add another device to this account.

3. A Sync Code will be displayed on the screen. You can either copy and send the Sync Code to a device that already has DoseCast installed, or you can click Share Link and send a message to another device.

4. If you are using the Sync Code, open DoseCast on the second device. Navigate to Caregiver & Family Share and click on Attach this device to another account.

5. Enter the Sync Code, add a name to identify the device, and click Attach Device. The new device will now be connected to your Pro account and will load all the information saved on your original device.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I edit information about my medication?

Click the medication you wish to edit and locate the appropriate field and select it. When you are done making changes, click the check mark in the upper right corner, and then click the check mark again in the main medication area to save and exit to the main menu.

Why aren’t my changes saved?

After every change, please make sure you click the check mark in the upper right corner of the screen to save. If you have additional problems, please email [email protected].

What should I do if I want to delay taking my medication?

Under the medication name, click the Postpone button. Select the amount of time you wish to delay your dose by. The new time will be displayed to the right of the medication’s name.

What should I do if I didn’t take my medication but I already marked that I did?

Under the medication name, click the Undo button and then confirm that you wish to undo the dose event.

How do I edit or delete a medication dose or that I took in the past?

Click on History at the bottom of the main screen and then click on the pencil in the upper right corner. To edit, select the pencil icon on the right side of the dose event and select the Drug Name, Action, Event Time, or Scheduled Time as appropriate. Click the check mark after the field is edited and once more to return to the History screen. To delete the event, select the trash can icon on the right side and confirm that you wish to delete it

How do I manually add a new medication event to my history?

Click on History at the bottom of the main screen and then click on the pencil in the upper right corner. Click on Add new event… and select the Drug Name, Action, and Event Time. Click the check mark after every field is completed and once more to return to the History screen.

What is the difference between suspending and deleting a medication?

When a medication is suspended, you will not receive reminders to take it or be able to log new doses but its and its settings will remain on your device. When a medication is deleted, it will be completely removed from the system, including the history log. We suggest that if you wish to retain records of your past medications, you choose the suspend function.

I suspended a medication but it does not display in my list. How do I see it?

Click on Settings in the bottom row of icons on the main page. Under Display, click Show suspended drugs and make sure the switch is toggled on. If you have additional problems, please email [email protected].

How do I rename or remove a person from my list of people?

Select a medication and click on Taken By and then Edit List. To edit a person’s name, click the pencil icon to the right of their name. To remove them, click the trash can icon and confirm the deletion.

How do I send my medication history log to someone?

Click on History in the bottom row of icons on the main page. Select the mail icon at the bottom of the screen and confirm that you wish to send your information. Select the program you wish to sent it (such as Gmail) and from there you may send as you would any other file. The drug history log will be attached as an HTML document.

How do I back up my program information?

There are two options to make a data backup under Settings. Normal accounts may make a copy to by going to the Security and Privacy section and clicking on Back up to external SD card. The location of the file will be displayed when the copy is made. Pro accounts may make an additional copy by going to Data Backup and selecting Backup to Cloud. A backup code will be displayed and you can save that information by clicking on Save Backup Code and selecting a method of copying or saving that information.

How do I load my old program information?

If you made a copy of your information on an SD card, click on Settings and then locate Restore from external SD card backup under Security and Privacy. It will ask you to confirm that you wish to replace the information with the data from the copy on the SD card. If you have a Proc account made a copy in the cloud, click on Settings and then locate Restore from cloud under Data Backup. You will need to type in the code provided to you when making a copy to the cloud. When you have typed in the code, press Restore. If you have any problems regarding restoring your data after you have made a copy, please email [email protected].
